CALL FOR APPLICATION Professional Internship And Fellowship For Emerging Young Peace Builders (PIFEY – Programme)

We invites highly motivated young people (aged 15 to 35) from Cameroon and abroad to gain hands-on experience in Development, Peace and humanitarian work by joining our team.

About the Initiative
The LOYOC Professional Internship and Fellowship for Emerging Young Peacebuilders (PIFEY) is an inclusive professional development programme that offers young students, peace activists, civil society leaders and scholars from Cameroon the opportunity to join LOYOC’s team in any of the offices in Buea, Bamenda, Yaounde or Maroua to acquire hands-on experience on; design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and learning of peacebuilding initiatives as well as acquire skills in organizational management and operations.

Since the inception of the pilot phase in 2016, the program has successfully produced over 30 alumni who have become a strong pipeline of young talented women and men working in the space of International Development with several international organizations, government, think tanks, and academia.

The program offers three-month fellowships for practitioners and two-month internships for students to improve strategies and techniques to champion development, peace, and humanitarian efforts. Interns and fellows will build on their experiences to engage in design and implement initiatives; network; engage with stakeholders; conduct research and writing; consider best practices and lessons learned, and develop professional relationships within the national and global youth movements. They will also be expected to complete a written product relating to their proposed area of interest. The programme will culminate in a formal presentation where interns and fellows will share their learnings and showcase their initiatives developed.

Application Procedure

Prospective applicants may apply on either the practitioner or scholarly track.

• Practitioners Track (Fellowship)- Three Months

The practitioner track is intended specifically for activists, civil society leaders and scholars. Applicants applying for the practitioner track are expected to have substantial practical experience working to promote peace, prevent violent extremism, and prevent conflict. There are no specific degree requirements for the practitioner track. The program will focus on typically mid-career professionals with at least a year of voluntary experience working in the field of international development.

• Students Track (Internship) – Two Months

This track is basically for students either studying in related fields of international development or peace studies from any university from across Cameroon. Applications for this track are primarily for academic or professional internship opportunities.  Applicants are expected to present a letter from their university, requesting an internship opportunity. The program is preferably for postgraduate students.

Eligibility Criteria

• Young Cameroonians between the age of 18 to 35.
• A practitioner with at least 2 years of voluntary or work experience in community and international development or peacebuilding-related activities.
• Students currently undertaking postgraduate or doctorate degrees.
• Demonstrate proficiency in English and French Languages.
• Be available to commit at least 40 hours physically a week for the entire duration of the program in one of our offices across the nation.
• Must be based in Cameroon.

À propos de l’initiative

Le programme LOYOC Professional Internship and Fellowship for Emerging Young Peacebuilders (PIFEY) est
un programme de développement professionnel inclusif qui offre aux jeunes étudiants, militants pour la paix,
leaders de la société civile et universitaires du Cameroun l’opportunité de rejoindre l’équipe du LOYOC dans l’un
des bureaux de Buea, Bamenda, Yaoundé ou Maroua pour acquérir une expérience pratique sur la conception, la
mise en œuvre, le suivi, l’évaluation et l’apprentissage des initiatives de consolidation de la paix ainsi que pour
acquérir des compétences en matière de gestion et d’opérations organisationnelles.
Depuis le début de la phase pilote en 2016, le programme a produit avec succès plus de 30 anciens élèves qui sont
devenus un solide pipeline de jeunes femmes et hommes talentueux travaillant dans l’espace du développement
international avec plusieurs organisations internationales, le gouvernement, les groupes de réflexion et le milieu
universitaire.

Procédure de candidature

Les candidats potentiels peuvent s’inscrire soit dans la filière des praticiens, soit dans la filière des chercheurs.
– Filière des praticiens (bourse) – Trois mois
Le parcours des praticiens s’adresse spécifiquement aux activistes, aux dirigeants de la société civile et aux
universitaires. Les candidats sont censés avoir une expérience pratique substantielle de la promotion de la paix,
de la prévention de l’extrémisme violent et de la prévention des conflits. Il n’y a pas d’exigences spécifiques en
matière de diplôme pour la filière des praticiens. Le programme s’adresse à des professionnels en milieu de
carrière ayant au moins un an d’expérience volontaire dans le domaine du développement international.

– Filière étudiants (stage) – deux mois

Ce programme s’adresse aux étudiants en développement international ou en études sur la paix de n’importe quelle université du Cameroun. Les candidatures pour ce parcours sont principalement pour des opportunités de stages
académiques ou professionnels. Les candidats doivent présenter une lettre de leur université demandant une opportunité de stage. Le programme s’adresse de préférence aux étudiants de troisième cycle.

Critères d’éligibilité
• Jeunes Camerounais âgés de 18 à 35 ans.
• Praticien ayant au moins deux ans d’expérience bénévole ou professionnelle dans le domaine du
développement communautaire et international ou dans des activités liées à la consolidation de la paix.
• Étudiants en cours d’études supérieures ou de doctorat.
• Faire preuve d’une bonne maîtrise de l’anglais et du français.
• Être disponible pour s’engager physiquement au moins 40 heures par semaine pendant toute la durée du
programme dans l’un de nos bureaux à travers le pays.
• Être basé au Cameroun.
