Training of Trainers Workshop on Protection and Safeguarding: Empowering Local Youth Corner Cameroon’s Staff and Volunteers

Local Youth Corner Cameroon (LOYOC), in partnership with Search for Common Ground Cameroon, is currently implementing the YOUNG Cameroon project aimed at promoting youth empowerment and peacebuilding in Cameroon. As part of our commitment to ensuring a safe and protective environment for all project participants, including staff and beneficiaries, there is a need to conduct a 2 days Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on Protection, Safeguarding Awareness and Digital Safety. This workshop, facilitated by Search for Common Ground Cameroon, will play a crucial role in equipping our staff with the knowledge and skills necessary to uphold our safeguarding standards.

Why This Workshop Matters

The YOUNG Cameroon project is dedicated to fostering youth empowerment, engagement and improving the role of young people in peace processes in Cameroon. As part of this initiative, it is imperative that we address and integrate protection and safeguarding measures into all aspects of our work. This workshop is designed to enhance our team’s understanding of these critical concepts, ensuring that we can effectively manage and mitigate any risks associated with our project activities.

Through this ToT workshop, we set to achieve these key objectives:

  1. Understanding the concept and importance of safeguarding and Protection policies
  2. Building Capacity to mainstream Safeguarding into organizational culture: Participants will gain the skills needed to identify and address potential protection risks and concerns that may arise throughout the project. This capacity-building aspect is vital for proactive risk management.
  3. Safeguarding Policy and Procedure Establishments: The workshop will provide our team with practical understanding and best practices to seamlessly improve our safeguarding policies and procedures, integrate and properly mainstream these into their daily project activities, ensuring that protective practices are embedded in all project operations.
  4. Fostering Accountability: We aim to cultivate a culture of accountability and responsibility within the organization, reinforcing our commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for all project stakeholders, especially our youth participants.

Training of Trainers

The workshop is highly interactive, featuring presentations, group discussions, role-plays, and practical exercises. This participatory approach ensures that learning is engaging and effective, with ample opportunities for peer learning and sharing of experiences.

Looking ahead, this Training of Trainers workshop is a vital step in our ongoing commitment to creating a safe and supportive environment for the youth we serve and interact with through our project activities. By equipping LOYOC staff with the necessary tools and knowledge, we are reinforcing our dedication to safeguarding and ensuring the overall success of the YOUNG Cameroon project. Together, we are paving the way for a safer, more empowering future for our youth and community.
