Course de la Paix: Celebrating Unity and Sport in Yabassi

The 3rd Bilengue Bi Nsan Peace Race took place on April 4-5 in Yabassi, successfully celebrating the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. Sponsored by UNESCO and implemented by UNFPA in collaboration with Local Youth Corner, the event showcased the unifying power of sport.

Event Highlights

The weekend kicked off with thrilling boat races on the picturesque NKam River, featuring three dedicated teams: Unity, Peace, and Love. Each team, consisting of 15 members, exemplified collaboration and harmony. The Unity team from Ewodi claimed first place, followed by the Peace team from Bodiman and the Love team from Yabassi.

The event also featured a lively “caravan” walk to the stadium, fostering community spirit. Cultural performances enriched the event, with a vibrant showcase during Cultural Night. Twelve talented models represented their schools, culminating in the crowning of Elena as Miss Youth and Peace of Yabassi, celebrating her embodiment of peace and cultural pride.

Engaging Activities

Day 2 began with an energetic aerobic session. Notable government officials were present, including Che Patrick Ngwashi (Divisional Officer), MOUELLE KOMBI Narcisse (Minister of Sports), and Ivaha Diboua (Governor of Littoral), highlighting the event’s significance and support for youth initiatives. This was followed by an exciting bicycle race attended by local dignitaries. An emergency medical center was established to ensure the safety of all participants. Winners from the cycling and marathon events were celebrated, with Nguesta Liliane and Tchoupteng Frank taking top honors in their respective categories. Nguesta Liliane triumphed as the female marathon winner, showcasing remarkable athleticism.

 

Promoting Awareness

The event also focused on addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through sensitization workshops, highlighting the importance of community support and respectful dialogues.

The Bilengue Bi Nsan Peace Race was a resounding success, fostering unity and promoting a culture of peace. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this memorable event!
