The city of Bertoua is set to become the heart of community unity and empowerment as it hosts the 4th edition of the NA-WE-WE Sports Jamboree from August 2 to 30, 2025. This year’s theme, Uniting Through Sports: Building Social Cohesion Among Refugees, IDPs, and Host Communities, underscores the event’s commitment to fostering collaboration and understanding among diverse populations.

Under the distinguished patronage of the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education and with the support of the City Mayor of Bertoua, the Jamboree aims to leverage sports and recreational activities to address significant social issues. The event will create a platform for dialogue and relationship-building among displaced persons, refugees, and local communities, particularly in the context of the ongoing humanitarian challenges facing the region.

Bertoua is a strategic choice for this initiative, given its substantial population of refugees from the Central African Republic and internally displaced persons (IDPs) from conflict-affected areas in Cameroon. The convergence of these groups presents both challenges and opportunities for fostering social cohesion and inclusivity.

The main objectives of the Jamboree include creating safe spaces for dialogue, providing free medical screenings, and raising awareness on pressing issues such as gender-based violence and electoral participation. Organizers also aim to promote youth engagement in environmental protection and community service.

Participants can look forward to a month filled with various activities, including sports tournaments, health consultations, donation drives, and workshops focused on civic engagement and conflict resolution. The event is expected to attract over 200 young athletes and engage more than 100,000 spectators in Bertoua, with a nationwide reach of over 500,000 through digital campaigns.

The NA-WE-WE Sports Jamboree has a proven track record of success, having previously mobilized thousands across Cameroon, providing humanitarian support and fostering community spirit. As the event approaches, organizers invite donors, sponsors, and partners to contribute to this transformative initiative.
