Prisoners feel, violent offenders care and yes, they have a human heart!!
The Kribi Principal Prison is one of the 8 prison facilities in the 6 Regions of Cameroon where the Creative Skills for Peace Project is being executed. This Project seeks to use quality education, vocational skill-based training, entrepreneurial techniques, leadership and peace building as alternatives to violence, promote rehabilitation and reintegration and prevent youth recidivism and radicalization.

The inmates from the Kribi Principal Prison who are participants of the Creative Skills for Peace Brick Moulding skill are donating the first set of moulded blocks for the construction of a beauty parlour which will serve as a shed for their fellow trainees in the other skills under the Creative Skills for Peace Project. Even though this skill is very tedious, it also requires these young violent offenders to harness their energy daily while they mould bricks. This contributes to the infrastructural growth of their immediate environment.

This is an initiative that they conceived because of the transformation that the CS4Peace project has instilled in them by teaching them the values and virtues of love, sharing, and being each other’s keeper. The trainees witnessed how stressful it was for their colleagues to be trained daily under the extreme weather conditions of the sight blinding sun and heavy rains and decided to help them have a conducive environment for their training sessions. One inmate said ‘’ the others often come to learn in rain like in the sun, this is our way of supporting each other’’. This remarkable step shows how team spirit can transform the mindset of a young violent offender which is a right step towards their rehabilitation and reintegration process.
