Local Youth Corner commemorates the International Day of Peace 2017. “Together for Peace, respect, safety and dignity for all.”
Category : Peace Day
On the 21st of September 2017, Local Youth Corner commemorated the International Peace Day with an advocacy and presentation by the National Coordinator concurrently with experts on Youth, Peace and Security as a side event of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He was able to share the positive practices in the rehabilitation and reintegration of violent offenders in Cameroon as well as call on the international community to support and accompany youth-led peace building initiatives in Cameroon and across the continent.
His presence at the UNGA side event was another opportunity to showcase the work of Cameroonian youth in the domain of peace building and towards the localization of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security. It should be noted that Local Youth Corner greatly contributed to the development of this resolution and thus stands as the lead in the efforts to localize this resolution in Cameroon.
Concurrently to this activity, the team in Cameroon commemorated the day through an acting performance of an extract of Justin Chadwick’s “Mandela” movie. This 07minutes short movie stands as an advocacy against the use of violence as a solution for any conflict and proposes the use of all other non-violent approaches available such as negotiation, dialogue and elections. By reproducing the words of Tata Mandela, Local Youth Corner sought to reiterate the resonance of those words across national boundaries and over time.
