Local Youth Corner Cameroon Celebrates the International Day of Peace in the Far North Region of Cameroon

In commemoration of the 2020 International Day of Peace, Local Youth Corner Cameroon’s Far North Regional Office celebrates on the Theme « TOGETHER FOR PEACE: LET’S CARVE PEACE IN US AND SILENCE GUNS ». This theme is in line with the African Union’s 2020 Theme « Silencing the Guns » which plans to end all armed conflicts, civil violence and prevent genocide to ensure a peaceful society.  In the midst of the Boko Haram insurgency and violent conflict in Cameroon, LOYOC has assembled youths from 9 different tribes of Cameroon (Peul, capsiki, bakossi, vanillée, Tupuri, Ewondo, Bamoun,Iziga, Baya, Bassa, Dabba, mouscoul) to celebrate together and peace through painting activities symbolizing peace, social cohesion and living together for a common good.

This activity is in line with this year’s theme « SHAPING PEACE TOGETHER ». It demonstrates the importance of living together in a world of security crises and armed conflicts. It is in this perspective that we have mobilized young mediators and peace ambassadors to sensitize other young people on the importance of peace and social cohesion through BODY PAINTING and PEACE SPOT VIDEOS in order to achieve goal 16 of the sustainable development goals.

LOYOC Celebrated this day by spreading compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic which is plaguing the world. We Stand together with the UN, Government, youths and other stakeholders against attempts to use the virus to promote discrimination or hatred. We can shape peace together.
